Granites are most easily characterized as light colored and coarse grained as a result of cooling slowly below the surface. Color variation is a response to the percent of each mineral found in the sample.  The crystals in granite provide a variety of mixed colors — feldspar (pink or red), mica (dark brown or black), quartz (clear pink, white, or black) and amphibole (black)

Granite is high in quartz (about 25%), feldspar, and mica. It is widely used for architectural facades, construction materials, ornamental stone and monuments. Over 40% of dimension stone quarried is granite.  Crushed granite is used as a durable construction material in asphalt and concrete used in highway and infrastructure projects

Granite is the most widespread of igneous rocks, underlying much of the continental crust.  Granite is an intrusive igneous rock. Intrusive rocks form from molten material (magma) that flows and solidifies underground, where magma cools slowly.  Eventually, the overlying rocks are removed, exposing the granite.   Granites usually have a coarse texture (individual minerals are visible without magnification), because the magma cools slowly underground, allowing larger crystal growth

Granite is a rock mined from granite rocks at the Western desert mining site south of the Bandit Camp in the Kharidian Desert. In this quarry, as elsewhere in the desert, desert heat will continually reduce the player's Hitpoints unless the player has waterskins in inventory or is wearing the Desert amulet 4. The combination of Hitpoints cape and regen bracelet can also outheal the damage taken when wearing heat-protective gear, including a prospector kit. Varrock armour 2 or higher is recommended, as the chance to mine double ores works on granite.

In Trailblazer League, a 2 kg block could be purchased from Trader Stan's Trading Post in Port Khazard and Catherby. This was to allow players to complete King's Ransom without the need to unlock the Kharidian Desert.

Mining granite provides the fastest Mining experience obtainable. When using tick manipulation to mine only granite, the rates can reach over 116,000 experience per hour at level 70 and up to 132,000 experience per hour at level 99. This is the fastest Mining experience obtainable as soon as reaching level 45, but it is considerably more difficult than other methods due to the click intensity and accuracy involved. Without tick manipulation, the rates are around 48,000 experience per hour at level 70 and 60,000 experience per hour at level 99.

A piece of granite (any size) is required in the quest King's Ransom, and two 5kg pieces of granite are required in the quest Enakhra's Lament. Five pieces of Granite (5kg) can be used to upgrade an Outdoor Menagerie to a Volcanic habitat. It is otherwise useless.

Granite is a rock that can only be mined from granite rocks at the Western desert mining site south of the Bandit Camp in the Kharidian Desert. In this quarry, as elsewhere in the desert, desert heat will continually reduce the player's Hitpoints unless the player has waterskins in inventory or is wearing the Desert amulet 4. Prior to January 2007, no water was required in the quarry.

Mining granite is the best experience for people trying to achieve 99 Mining, reaching as high as 72,000 experience per hour. It can be mined alongside Sandstone for an increased experience rate by decreasing the amount you have to move to mine the rocks. It is recommended to have a high Mining level, bring many waterskins and 200 coins for rug travelling to the Bandit Camp (or a Camulet), and have enough space to drop granite, or using a Desert amulet 4 for infinite water. Alternatively, using the Humidify spell can extend your trips by filling waterskins without having to leave the quarry.
